How much exercise should a 8 year old toy poodle get each day?

I have recently adopted an 8-10 year old toy poodle who was a stray. At the moment I am taking him for two 10 minute walks per day and sometimes he has a little run around the garden. I was just wondering what is the recommended amount of walks a toy poodle should be having each day?

Lone Star was the name used by British company Die Cast Machine Tools Ltd (DCMT) for its toy products.
Starting in 1949, the company manufactured die cast toys for children. The 'Lone Star' name was chosen because the big demand at the time was for toy guns and rifles driven by the Western films in cinemas all over Britain. The company also made tie-in toy guns licenced from the James Bond films and The Man From U.N.C.L.E. series.
Other early models included large numbers of hand painted toy soldiers and figures, mostly military, with some cowboy and Native American figures. Other figures were licensed from children's series and included Noddy, Popeye and Zorro. Initially the soldiers were made in hollow cast lead, but later changed to plastic.
Lone Star began producing toy cars in 1960 with a rapidly expanding range of metal die cast cars under names like "Lone Star Flyers" and the superb range of OO scale (1/76th) Lone Star Impy vehicles. They followed the lead set by Dinky Toys and moved into diecast model aeroplanes in 1959 with the 2-2-0 Series of modern jet liners in 1/220th scale.
Under the "Lone Star Locos" name, they produced (OOO scale) 2mm to the foot British and American outline model push along trains in 1957,9mm gauge track and a range of diecast Station buildings. This was followed in 1960 by "Treble-0-Lectric" electrically powered working models of two British diesel locomotives, The Class 24 Sulzer Type 2 Diesel and the Class 23 Napier Type 2 "Baby Deltic" Diesel, an American Baldwin 0-8-0 Steam Locomotive and a General Motors FA style Bo-Bo Diesel Electric loco which was available in both US and UK liveries. These were accompanied by track, British & Continental outline rolling stock, scenic items and other accessories, such as the Gulliver's Kingdom range of rubber moulded buildings in 2mm scale. Vacuum-formed bases were available to form "instant" scenic layouts and these could be purchased separately or in sets.
The electric train models were very well received in the Model Railway press of the time and essentially showed that a viable 2mm to the foot system could be designed, manufactured and marketed in the UK. Lone Star Treble-O-Lectric trains essentially introduced the concept that would later become British "N" gauge, 10 years ahead of the competition.
However, limited toy trade distribution, the existence of the Tri-ang TT scale range and poor reliability of the driving mechanisms (which used final drive from a pair of elastic bands) ensured that Treble-o-Lectric never sold well enough to pay back the investment. In 1964 production ceased, although push-along trains continued to be made for far longer, using the existing tools. The accessories were switched from die-cast metal to injection moulded polyethylene at this time and all units were sold in blister packs. The premier outlet was British High Street retail chain Woolworths. Unsold stock was finally cleared from the Hatfield warehouse during 1988, ensuring a whole new lease of life for the system as new collectors began to take an interest in Lone Star.
Today there is a thriving Lone Star collectors circle who can regularly be seen displaying fully working model train layouts using only Lone Star equipment throughout the UK and occasionally, in Europe & Canada too.
In 2009, Lone Star cap guns are once again widely available, as the name and original logo are being used by a German manufacturer with good distribution across Europe.

History of Indian Railways
the Indian railways was laid down by the British. It was in the year 1853 that the first train ran on the Indian tracks. The 3 locomotives namely Sindh, Sahib and Sultan hauled it. The journey was completed in an hour and fifteen minutes. This is the first known commercial passenger service which was given in India. In fact, Thomason, a steam loco, was being used for hauling construction material in Roorkee.
 
Falkland was the second locomotive which came to India. This was taken into use by the contractors of GIPR for performing their shunting operations. This was later known as GIPR loco #9. The third locomotive which came to India was Vulcan, is said that this locomotive was utilized by the GIPR for shunting and material hauling.
 
In the year 1853 the first passenger train started from Howrah station and left for Hooghly, which is at a distance of 24 miles. The inauguration of railway transport thus began from here on the Eastern side of the country.
 
In the year 1856 the first line was opened by the Madras Railway Company. This line ran between Walajah Road and Veyasarpandy, this is at a distance of 63 miles. The year 1959 marked the beginning of railways in the Northern part of the country. The first line was laid between Allahabad to Kanpur which was 119 miles in length. In 1857 the first part from Hathras Road to Mathura Cantonment was opened. These were certain steps to develop the railway network in India.

Cavaliers Love The Taste Of 60 Wins (And Nail-Biters)

In the last two games, our beloved Cleveland Cavaliers won by a combined 8 total points.  It's getting to be that time of year.  The playoffs are on the horizon, and the Cavs have already locked up the division.  Speaking of which, the next closest team in our division is 18 games behind.  If that doesn't proclaim dominance, I'm not sure what does.  Regardless, at this point in the season, we can't expect our starters to see their regular minutes.  Mike Brown knows this team is poised for a championship-run, and he doesn't want to take chances.

Wednesday night, the scrappy Milwaukee Bucks were ready to give the Cavs their best shot.  This game came down to the wire, and Mo Williams held us together to grit out a 101-98 victory.  Milwaukee took advantage of our missed free throws, and lack of offensive production.  LeBron's 23 points and 7 assists were solid, but we definitely played down to the competition. 

"We should have won that game," said Bucks coach Scott Skiles. "We gave them that game. Nothing against Cleveland, because they won and they deserved it. But we've got to make plays."

Not so fast Scott.  When you're playing the Cavaliers, you should never say, "We should have won that game."  There's no justifying this blatently ignorant statement.  Cleveland is just better than Milwaukee.  You should have said, "We almost got really lucky and won that game against the Cavs who are clearly a better team than us."

Nice try though.  Maybe instead he also should have focused on the free-throw disparity, which was awesomely one-sided.  The Bucks shot 9 free throws; the Cavs shot 46.  Either the Association loves to see LeBron win in Cleveland, or Milwaukee just commits a ridiculous amount of fouls.  I vote the latter. 

John Salmons was one who didn't overlook the statistic, and he as quoted saying, "9 to 45, that's got to be a record," Salmons said. "I don't want to lose no money, so ... I'm not going to speak about that."  Now there's a guy who values the importance of the all-mighty dollar. 

Milwaukee thought they should have won, but that's just not the case.  Their playoff chances also took a major hit last night as Andrew Bogut was seriously injured in their victory over the Phoenix Suns.  Bogut sustained a dislocated elbow, broken hand, and sprained his wrist.  Obviously, Bogut won't be available for the Bucks futile playoff run.  Not looking good for the brew-crew faithful.

The win over Milwaukee pushed the Cavs' win total to 59 games, one away from that sweet #60. 

The Atlanta Hawks came to town, hoping to delay the Cavaliers achieving this feat back-to-back years.  It wasn't meant to be.  LeBron and company continued the recent trend of allowing opponents to think they have a chance, then actually start playing late in the 4th quarter.  So in summation: Cavs don't take the first 3 quarters very seriously, push the "easy" button (aka giving LeBron the ball) late in the game, and win a close game 93-88. 

Don't get me wrong, Atlanta has a pretty darn good team.  A starting lineup with Jamal Crawford, Joe Johnson, Josh Smith, and Al Horford is a pretty formidable squad.  Their problem arises when they go to their bench, who can't hang with the depth of the Cavaliers' bench.  Another problem is a common one for NBA teams: Having to go against LeBron James. 

LeBron was vintage ridiculous in the 4th quarter, displaying an impressive arsenal of unstoppable drives.  His shooting stroke was also dead-on, and the Hawks had no answer.  LeBron finished with 27 points and 13 rebounds.  There aren't too many other (in fact there are no) small-forwards in the league that have the potential to grab 13 rebounds in a night.  That's part of what makes LeBron James the most dominant force in the league.  His signature hammer-dunk in the 4th quarter got the crowd on their feet, and left the rim in a little bit of pain. 

Also important was the continued clutch play of Mo Williams, who had 24 huge points to help the Cavs seal the deal late.  Maurice Williams is one of the best point guards in the league.  LeBron knows this, and always gives him opportunities to knock down much-needed 3 pointers when the game is on the line. 

Let's just think take a minute, and think about how great our team is.  With this win over Atlanta, the Cavaliers became the 18th team to have back-to-back 60 win seasons.  The Cavaliers also clinched home-court advantage throughout the Eastern Conference finals, and soon to be throughout the entire playoffs.  This win makes it 10 straight at home.  The Cavaliers are 60-16 on the season.  That means, that if you bet $100,000 on every Cavs game this year, you would have turned your $100,000 into $4.4 million.  That's a pretty good return on your investment.  LeBron is the run-away pick for MVP.  That means he could win the scoring title, regular season MVP, and finals MVP.  When your franchise goes from 17 wins, 65 losses, to 60+ wins and 16 losses, you probably drafted LeBron James.

Today, we head to Boston to embarrass the Celtics, (again) and the win total will climb to 61.  The Celtics are just hoping to not get knocked out of the 1st round this year.  The Cavs are expecting to win at all.  All things are possible when you draft the King.  LeBron James is Underrated

Jaguar And Land Rover Plants In The Uk Remain Open

It's bad enough that a once mighty car-making country lost most of its pedigreed marques in the freeway. Rolls and Bentley have gone to the Germans, MG to the Chinese, Jaguar and the Rover to the Indians.  It gets worst when the few remaining production facilities left in the wholesale just might close down.  That would completely erase car making out of the country's GNP.

There have been plans to close down the Land Rover production plant at its historic Lode Lane, Solihull site as well as the Jaguar factory at Castle Bromwich.  Thousands of automotive professionals at both factories in the West Midlands were stunned when the Tata Motors Group announced last September that either Castle Bromwich or Solihull would close down its operations in the summer of 2010.

But if fate could be kinder to a country that just lost its entire automobile industry, the big bosses at Tata Motors just might have a change of heart. The new regime head at Jaguar Land Rover Ralf Speth as well as the Tata Motors head Carl-Peter Forster have reviewed their initial strategic plans with an eye to keeping both sites alive.

A source quite close to JLR senior management intimated that "One of the options now is not to close either of them. There is a new strategy now being developed – it is a completely new ball game. It has now gone back from ‘there will be a plant closure.' They are looking at it again."

That should calm the nerves of unions in both plants as they've opposed any effort to seal the plants that will surely displace thousands of their members and have shunned any discussion on the earlier closure plans.

The JLR source has also disclosed that upcoming 2010 vehicle models for Jaguar and Land Rover could guarantee the futures of both Solihull and Castle Bromwich factories. "That is now a very real possibility."

The review at JLR follows the installation of a new Tata Motors Group CEO, Carl-Peter Forster formerly based in Mumbai and the new Jaguar Land Rover CEO Ralf Speth based in Gaydon.  The earlier closure threat was announced under the old regime of David Smith at JLR who was replaced in a management shuffle last January.

Sales revenues at the Jaguar Land Rover have enjoyed a 60% increase in February amidst a worldwide recession which most pundits see lifting anytime soon.  The Tata Motors Group also announced some £38.7 million in after-tax profits just for the last 2009 fiscal quarter alone after previous quarters mired in the red.

A JLR spokesman said: "We said back in September we would go through a process and make a decision in the middle of the year.  As you would expect our new CEOs are studying our business and looking at our plans closely."

He further added that the September Business Plan remains in force though given a review by the new regime.  Workers at both West Midlands plants are crossing their fingers a new business plan out soon will be kinder to them.

Week thirty-three to thirty six
The baby grows to the length of sixteen inches and weighs four pounds at this stage. It can open-close its eyes, the fingernails too start growing at this stage.

Week thirty-seven to forty
The baby's major organs are fully developed by now and lungs too grow to prepare for breathing outside the womb. The baby will drop to birthing stage in the pelvis. The actual delivery time could be two weeks before or after the expected due date. Be prepared for the arrival of your bundle of joy.

Maintain a pregnancy weekly calendar to note down all the developments and other relevant information provided by your doctor to monitor the growth of your baby. Good pregnancy health is vital during the progressing pregnancy week by week.

The IJN Nagato: A Battleship or Heavy cruiser?

I heard many people called it a battleship and others called it a heavy cruiser. what exactly is it?

Laid down on August 28, 1917, launched on November 9, 1919 and commissioned on November 25, 1920, the ship carried a main armament of eight of the new 16 inch main guns mounted two per turret; two superfiring centerline forward and two superfiring centerline aft. Nagato was the name ship of a two-ship battleship class that also included the Mutsu and the ships had a mixture of 15 oil-fired and six mixed-firing boilers that gave them the exceptional speed of 26.7 knots. When built, these ships were the best in the world—they had bigger guns, were better protected and faster than the excellent British Queen Elizabeth class and they were in the water before the similarly-armed and much slower American Colorado class. “Nagato” is the name of an area in Japan.

At the time of their construction, these were the most powerful battleships in the world. Does Size Really Matter?

I must confess the following:

1. I watch the Biggest Loser TV program and am in awe of what they accomplish.

2. I am rooting for my niece who has recently lost 30 pounds and looking to lose more.

3. I exercise to maintain my current body weight.

4. I have never been bullied or ridiculed based on my weight; in fact, I receive a good deal of positive feedback for being thin.

5. I realize that I have A LOT of issues around size discrimination and it is about time I fess up to them.

We have all grown up hearing the slogan, "Sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me!" If only that statement were true. Size discrimination is one of the last vestiges of acceptable prejudice and the discrimination goes far beyond the demeaning jokes and stares. In fact, size discrimination is so pervasive that it contributes to negative emotional, social, economic, and physical health issues.

First, it is critical to get an understanding of terminology. What terms are most acceptable today? Are they fat, overweight, large, heavy? With regard to weight, the term "fat" has historically been seen as a derogatory term. However, the National Association to Advance Fat Acceptance has embraced the term "fat" in an effort to reclaim the power of the word. This is similar to the term "queer", long used as a slur towards gays and lesbians, but is now used by gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender activists. Fat activists want the word "fat" to be used as an adjective, just like thin, small or tall and not as a put down. Hence, I will use "fat" continuously throughout this article unless it is a cited source.

The term "overweight" receives mixed reviews. People who take offense to the term say it assumes an average standard of weight. But what is "average"? Let's take a look at the "average" women in America:

• The average woman is 5'4 and weighs 140 pounds
• The average model is 5'11 and weighs 117 pounds
• Most fashion models are thinner than 98% of American women
• Surveys show 45% of women are on a diet on any given day
• Surveys show 60% of American women are a size 12 or larger

Size Discrimination: The Last Acceptable Prejudice, Sherill Cantrell-Brown MA. LPC

In the media, people who are fat or short are often shown for comic relief and are rarely portrayed as emotionally competent and happy. As a result, we have negative images of the experiences of people who are fat and/or short. When discussing issues of size, we most commonly gravitate towards issues of weight, yet height discrimination is equally damaging.

1. The LPA with support of other organizations has recently tried to have legislation passed to have the FCC ban the word midget from the media's use. This is similar to the bans on the "N-word" and other slurs.

"HD (Height Discrimination) is as present in our language as is its effect on the everyday life of a short person. One "looks up to" a significant individual, while an "underling" is "looked down upon". One can "belittle" an adversary, to "make him feel small." One might "overlook" a less worthy person, and see the person that "stands tall" being "a head and shoulders above" a "small minded" person."

With regard to height and weight issues, there is a gender difference that should be noted.  It is more acceptable in our society to be a fat man and less acceptable to be a fat woman. Tall women, with the exception of models, are viewed very differently than tall men who are automatically given respect due to their height.

Approximately 24% of women claim discrimination by their employer at work last year and 43% of overweight people claim the same.  One out of every three fat people experienced being bullied during their school years, and 43% of teachers say they view fat students as lazy, untidy, and uncomfortable to be around.

Time Magazine (2008) published an article by Yale's Rudd Center for Food Policy and Obesity, who conducted a survey to gain perspective on weight and height discrimination.  The report ranked weight third behind age and race as the most common form of prejudice.  Ranked in the top ten of the same poll was height discrimination. These results show the growing awareness to the importance of reducing obstacles faced by those who experience such discrimination.

In a survey conducted in 2005 and again in 2007, 93% of human resource professionals stated they would hire a thin person over a fat one based solely on weight. (Personnel Today magazine)

• Overweight and obese women have lower incomes ($6,700 a year less) and higher rates of poverty (10 percent higher) than their non-obese peers.

• Overweight students are more likely to be refused letters of recommendation from faculty members.

• Overweight people are not hired or promoted as often and are paid less than their thinner counterparts. They may be charged more for employee insurance coverage, and are sometimes fired because of their weight.

Airlines are contemplating charging people who are fat an extra seat charge because they take up too much space.  Some companies are planning to regularly charge employees a fat penalty unless they meet standards for weight, cholesterol, and blood pressure.  One study suggests that fat employees cost businesses more money when taking into account absenteeism and reduced productivity.

Yet the Health at Every Size movement would disagree. Just because someone is thin does not mean they are healthy. In many instances someone who is fat may very well be healthier than non-fat people due to lifestyle choices such as exercise, smoking, drinking, stress reduction, etc.

People make comments like, "you have such a pretty face" to those who are fat as a way to pay them a compliment. Though well-intended, this statement infers that the person who is fat has so much potential if only they were not so big. Adult little people are often referred to as cute, a condescending term that ultimately limits them to one characteristic of their humanity.

Back To My Confession

Being lesbian provides me with a base of experience that offers insight I might not otherwise have.  Although size discrimination and heterosexism are different in nature, both forms of prejudice share some commonalities. Here are some shared challenges that contribute to discriminatory attitudes and beliefs.

• Many people see gay people as disgusting and repugnant.
• Many would suggest gay people could change if they really wanted. As a result they blame gay people for the injustice they experience.
• Parents/family, and teachers, who are suppose to support and love you, encourage you to change.
• Public displays of affection are seen as disgusting and are not appreciated.
• Gay people are bullied, ridiculed and discriminated every day and as a result, experience higher rates of depression and suicide.

Does Size Really Matter?

Whether people want to admit it or not, size does matter. Just as race, gender, ability, and sexual orientation all matter because they are critical elements of our identity. All discrimination should be ban and much legislation has been passed to outlaw such injustice. Yet, very little has been done for discrimination based on size.

In the United States there are only six cities ( Binghamton. NY, San Francisco & Santa Cruz, CA, Urbana, IL, Madison, WI, and Washington DC) and one state (Michigan) that have laws intact to prevent discrimination based on weight or height, and these laws focus solely on employment issues.

How You Can Raise Awareness on Size Discrimination

• Put pressure on companies that discriminate against fat people or force employees into weight-loss programs.
• Fight accessibility problems within restaurants, theaters, airplanes and other forms of public transportation. If you are an "average-size" person, your advocacy on this issue will more likely result in change.
• Try to ensure there are programs in schools that teach tolerance and non-violence including teaching that fat kids should not be harassed, put on diets, or denied food.
• Don't let fat or short jokes go unchallenged.
• Do not judge people by their size.
